Revised January 13, 2024
Most residents are unaware of how their local government functions or how residents are represented.
How does it work in Shorewood?
Shorewood is a “Class A” city. By law this means that the City Council is comprised of five residents (1 Mayor and 4 City Council seats). Each member serves for four years: Alternating terms elected every two years. Learn more about the change in mayoral term here.
The Council is responsible for the budget, the strategic plan, code enforcement and administration, services, plus other items as presented. In addition, they are responsible for appointing residents to the parks and planning commissions. The City Administrator and staff respond to the direction of the Council.
