After 12 years and $323,000 in taxpayer funded engineering expenses, Shorewood’s staff still needs to demonstrate why the Shorewood Ravine project is necessary, how urgently it must be done, and whether the proposed solution justifies the cost. Is this a genuine problem demanding a solution?

Council Talks Community Center Future

Shorewood will take over senior programming at the SCEC Jan. 1, 2027. On Oct. 12 the Council debated the center’s mission, membership fees, staffing and marketing. A spirited discussion ended without measurable goals, accountability and projected costs to taxpayers.

SCA Attacked!

Early in the morning on Thursday 10/15/2026, our website, ShorewoodCitizenAdvocates.com, was the victim of a Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS) that continues today. The good news is that once we identified the issue affecting our website, we were able to counteract the attack.

Shorewood Citizen Advocates is pleased to present the following profiles of the candidates for Shorewood City Council. With no one else filing for election, Guy and Eric will be sworn in and begin their four year terms in January 2027.

What should have been a routine clarification of the rules for Matters From the Floor became a demonstration of high-handedness by Labadie.

Candidates for Shorewood Council Are Set

This November, Shorewood voters will elect two City Council Members, each serving a four-year term beginning in January 2027. The filing period for this election to those positions ended on July 28th and the withdrawal period ended July 30th. Two individuals filed for election.

Stealth Policy Changes

At the April 27 Shorewood council meeting, City Administrator Marc Nevinski stated that due to a code change, the city no longer assesses properties for water improvements. SCA carefully monitors activities at the city and his statement surprised even us. After some research, this is what we found:

Excelsior Fire District Chief Mackey Terminated

The Excelsior Fire District Joint Powers Authority board convened over multiple sessions to review independent investigation reports and consider disciplinary action against Fire Chief Curt Mackey. On April 8, they voted 3–2 to terminate Chief Mackey, effective immediately.
