Upon hearing resident Barry Brown’s speech during the city council meeting of March 23, 2026 we requested Mr. Brown to provide his documentation to SCA for a follow-up story.   Here’s what you need to know, in his words:
Based on Shorewood’s 2025 Long Range Financial Plan and 10 Year Capital Improvement Plan , over the next 6 years, the estimated charges from engineering firm Bolton & Menk are projected to total $7.5M.   Or, Shorewood could hire four internal staff engineers and save taxpayers $600k per year.
Here are three new and informative articles for readers this week.   - Ice Out: Welcoming Spring to Lake Minnetonka   - Xcel Energy site   - Ash Borer: A Fatal Invitation
How can the city of Shorewood regain the trust of residents after what transpired with the Watten Ponds development project?   One member of council said they have never seen an application brought before council with so many open issues and questions.
- Ring/Flock Partnership Cancelled   - Regional Trail Tree Removal   - Squirrels!
Flock license-plate cameras are watching us. We did not ask for them, didn’t vote for them, and most residents did not know they were being installed.   Now, we live with our movements being watched 24/7.
Are you sick of talking about COVID? Pun intended. Well this isn’t really about COVID, it’s about $883k given to the city of Shorewood to protect the citizens of Shorewood and it mostly all went down the drain.   Literally!
An organized group of residents has succeeded in delaying the Watten Ponds 2 proposed development by petitioning for an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW).   Once completed, the document will guide future decisions on the project. For now, the petition puts the project on hold.
- Dangerous Trees   - The Red Fox   - Snowplow Karma!
Millions!   Higher than necessary city taxes, unspent budget dollars, egregious reserves and overestimating projects are all contributors to higher compounding taxes each year.   How?
