Superior, Our Inland Sea
- Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake by surface area (31,700 sq. mi / 82,100 sq. km).
- It contains 10% of the world’s fresh surface water, enough to cover North and South America in a foot of water.
- Superior holds as much water as all other Great Lakes combined, plus three extra Lake Eries.
- The deepest of the Great Lakes, it reaches over 1,300 feet (406m) deep.
- The temperature is cold year-round, averaging around 40°F (4°C).
