Building positive change through communication, education and advocacy

In Shorewood, the retreat of legacy media like the Sun Sailor and other print publications directly enabled the creation of a "news desert"—a dangerous reality that the Shorewood Citizen Advocates (SCA) has stepped in to combat.
Over the past year, 15 residents have presented 6 major topics to Shorewood City Council members. These residents have made a positive impact: Which means the city council is paying closer attention to public input.   You can be heard too!
Have you looked at your utility bill this past quarter?   Residents are stunned to find it’s costing more than $100 more per quarter or $400 more per year - never mind the city's 9% property tax increase!
The Shorewood council had some tough decisions to make at the Apr. 13 council meeting:   - Whether to build an $813k Mill Street water main serving only 25 homes.   -Whether to revoke an operating license for a massage business.
If you receive a gas bill from CenterPoint Energy, or electric bill from Xcel Energy you may not know the City of Shorewood has covertly been taking money from you each month for years to increase their revenue.
Shorewood leadership considered city organized trash collection in 2019. “Organized hauling” is when the city contracts with one hauler based on bids and the best service value.   Results from a resident survey in 2019 were all that was needed to shelve the discussion. A survey is a piece of a much larger pie. Other relevant data is available that should be factored into a sound decision by the council.
