Shorewood Resident Calls for Action

By Dale Newberg - Beverly Drive, Shorewood.
Opinion

The Shorewood Mayor and City Council will be voting on Master Fee Schedule increases and new fees for Utilities at their September 22, 2025 meeting. The information is available on the Shorewood City website as the Sept 22 agenda meeting packet. ORDINANCE 627 is the one I’m most concerned about. (See draft proposal here) Find it, Read it, and Call or Email your elected officials before the meeting with your feedback.

Their contact information is on the city website, in the ShoreReport and below. Plus show up at the meeting to voice your opinion (limited to 3 minutes). Otherwise, this WILL BE APPROVED and the following fee increases will become effective 1/1/26.

  • Sanitary Sewer Service increases from $142.25 to $184.93 per quarter. 30% INCREASE
  • Water connection permits increase from $60 to $150. 150% INCREASE
  • Water service base fee of $31.51/qtr. will be charged to all residents “where water is available”, meaning city water is in your street but you are still on your private well. NEW FEE FOR ME AND 400 OTHER HOMES CHOOSING NOT TO CONNECT.
  • Water consumption fees are increasing from $0 for first 5,000 gallons to $8.75 for 5,000 gallons; $5.49/gal to $5.75/gal for up to 25,000 gal; $5.49/gal to $8.65/gal for up to 50,000 gal; and $7.89/gal to $10.35/gal for over 50,000 gal.
  • New Water Infrastructure Fee of $10/qtr. for all residents not already paying the $32.51/qtr. fee – starting in 2027. SO IT’S A NEW “WATER IS NOT EVEN AVAILABLE TO ME FEE”.
  • Storm water Management Basic rate increases from $43.49 to $69.58 per quarter. 60% INCREASE
  • Residential recycling fee increases from $18 to $19 per quarter. 5.5% INCREASE.

OUR PERSONAL INCREASE WILL BE $102.28/QTR, OR $409.12/YEAR!! THIS IS A 54.8% INCREASE FOR US. FROM $186.74 TO $289.02 PER QUARTER!!

THIS IS MY THIRD AND FINAL POST! I’VE ATTENDED AND COMMENTED AT THE LAST TWO MEETINGS AND WILL ATTEND AND COMMENT AGAIN ON THE 22ND. PLEASE DON’T LET THESE OUTRAGEOUS INCREASES BE APPROVED.

Let city leaders know what you think.
  1. Best option: attend and /or speak up at City Council meetings and get it on the public record.
  2. Contact City Council Members
